Initial Washrooms
Brighton, UK
2021
We were tasked with re-engineering a family of washroom service products to reduce unit price while improving assembly and updating them to current brand guidelines.
I was primarily involved in the design and manufacture of the water enclosure for controlling commercial washroom taps.
ENCLOSURE REDESIGN
The entire enclosure was redesigned from the ground up to use two injection moulded ‘clamshell’ halves. The unit cost was reduced by 82% all while improving maintenance and refining interaction features.
INJECTION MOUILDING
This was my first experience developing a complex injection moulded part that had to perform to high industry standards. The final unit utilised pad printing, integrated standard parts and achieved a sufficient IP rating with o-rings and rope seals.
MAIN CHALLENGES
Isolating specific variables in SLS prototypes helped validate the design systematically, proving mechanical features and suitable assembly time before committing to a moulded prototype.
